Principality of Munsterkasse - regiment inspection

With Saxe-Jarslberg involved in the border wars with Wittenberg, they have been unable to supply troops according to their nominal treaty obligations to Monrovia. So the the Monrovians have requested one of their other allies the Principality of Munsterkasse to make up the numbers.  Below you can see the infantry regiment raised from the towns of Edamme and Goudarre, they seem to have not coordinated their purchasing of headgear.

40mm: Assault on Regenstein ...

The Saxe-Jarlsberg border wars continue ... (a game using 40mm figures, and a tryout of the Sharpe Practice ruleset) ...

Scenario

Saxe-Jarslberg has been using the bridge over the river Oudear at Regenstein in Hesse-Limburger's territory to enable its forces to make raids into the Wittenberg province of Upper Belgravia.  Regenstein is an important trading route into the Imperium from the south-west.

Wittenberg has decided to take Regenstein to prevent the border raids by Saxe-Jarlsberg and to ensure 'the free passage of trade' into the Imperium.

The old fort at Regenstein, has a small garrison; recently arrived is a battalion of Hesse-Limburger regular troops. Some earthen ditches and ramparts have been constructed around the town, however the fort is the key to the defence of the town.

Not expecting any trouble the garrison is going to have a feast and a few drinks, which is currently being prepared behind the tavern ...

The Action
Captain Scharfe of the King's Jagers briefs his men on the attack plan, he has returned from a look at the towns defences (and has not changed back into his uniform, he is wearing a grey coat with red breaches and waistcoat).  Further back troops from the Boritzy Freikorps get ready ...

The jagers move off at the double, their job to get the ladders in place on a section of the wall which is not covered by the fort's guns and start the assault. They are spotted by the garrison who hurry to the walls. A runner is sent to fetch the regulars billetted in the town ...
The defenders are at the walls and the fort guns are firing, the jagers have one ladder up and are keeping the defenders heads down with their accurate fire...
Captain Scharfe encourages his men to get up the ladders and into the fort as the freikorps grenadiers come up with more ladders..
Some jagers are now in the fort and Captain Scharfe directs his men from atop the wall .. the grenadiers are getting ready to start their assault ..
The jagers and the grenadiers are starting to get some men into the fort, the garrison troops resolve is starting to waiver ... the regular troops have responded to the alarm and are just entering the fort ..
The grenadiers are now into the fort and Captain Scharfe is in the thick of the fighting ..the freikorps chasseurs are getting ready to cross the wall into the fort ...
The fight was hard but the defenders were outnumbered and surrendered. A great victory for Wittenberg.

A new kind of snuff ?

The King is out walking in the palace gardens with Count Hermann and the Field Marshall ...

King: I here there is a new kind of snuff in use.
Count: What's it called ? I wouldn't mind a change, my current one is getting rather bland. I think the supplier is putting sawdust in it.
King: I heard it is called 'Black Powder' and packs quite a punch. The general staff swear by it.
Count: Sounds great, just what I need
Field Marshall: I hate to disappoint you your majesty, but it is not a blend of snuff. It is in fact a new set of kriegspiel rules, replete with many illustrations.
King: Shame, I would like some more variety in my snuff box .....

Discussions and Entertainments ...

King Leopold and Count Hermann have just spent a long day discussing important business, the King asks the Count a passing question or two before he leaves ...

King: Count, how are the things going with regard to our treaty to supply troops for Brittania to serve overseas ?
Count: Very well, the recruits for the three battalions of infantry left today, they join with another one from Fenwick and then travel on foot or river barge via Zomverre, to Hanover and then on to the low countries - there to take ship for their destinations. I believe most of them will end up in the armies of the East India Company.
King: What about the ships we were to finance ?
Count: The merchants have collected and transferred the monies to Brittania and the ships will be fitted out; one for the navy in the Carribean and two for the East India Company, they have agreement to name the ships: Prince Albert (after your son), Leopold and Katerina after you and your wife.
King: Excellent ! I expect it will be some time before we hear news of their adventures.
Count: By the way your majesty Mademoiselle De Givenchy has returned from one of her trips, the intelligence she gathered has been most beneficial, she has told me that our agents are in place in Stagonia and keeping an eye on the movements of their army.
King: That is good news, we must know what is happening in Stagonia. Goodbye Count, give my best wishes to your wife ....
--oXo--

After working hard all day the King relaxes with his wife and some of the court, listening to the music of the guard foot and mounted bands...
